West Coast of Florida (summer 2001)

During the summer of 2001, I spent my days taking extra classes at the University of Florida. What fun! ZUnfortunately, this kept me from going on vacation with my family. Luckily, I was able to join up with Logan and his family at the end of their vacation. It was very nice, especially since Logan and I had been apart all summer. Please read on to hear about the few days I was able to spend with him and his family during the last week of summer.

The Trip There

It was a hot and sunny Wednesday afternoon. I woke up early because I knew I had a long drive ahead of me. I was leaving Sunrise, Florida to go to the West Coast to spend a few days with my boyfriend at the end of his family vacation. I hadn't seen Logan in a few weeks and I was really looking forward to this. All I had to do was drive, and a few hours later, I would be there..

Unfortunately, I had to take a few unanticipated detours along the way. While driving across Alligator Alley, a very boring road that stratches scross Florida, I noticed the hood of my car begin to rattle. I stoped at a rest area and tried to shut it. For some reason I couldn't so it an a nice man began to help me. Of course, he couldn;t do it either. I knew this was going to be a problem. WE manades to shut it with a wire and figured it would be safe to drive. I thanked him for his help and I was on my way.

I thought my troubles were over, but I was wrong. After stopping several times and having scary people assist me, I finally ended up in some tiny town and a welder said he could fix my problems. THe latch that holds my hood down had broken off, so he welded it back on. According to him, I was good to go. So I left that scary little town and got back on route.

I finally arived at my destination several hours later than I had anticipated, but it didn't matter I was finally there.

The Beach

After my hectic trip, I decided to spend the first day of my vacation relaxing at the beach. We were staying at a beautiful rented condo right on the becahfront at Indian Rocks Beach. That night we were able to watch a beautiful sunset and enjoy the spectacular view from our bedroom window.

Gilligan's Island

My second day of the trip Logan's family and I took a short drive to anotehr Island close by, Madeira Beach, where we decided to rent a small boat for the day.

We were all having a wonderful time. Logan and his dad were alternating between being captain and Logan's mom, sister and I enjoyed laying back and relaxing. The sun was shining, the wind was blowing through our hair, we couldn't have asked for anything more perfect.

After playing around in the boat a little, we docked at a tiny island and ate the picnic lunch we had brought. Then we went snorkely and explored the island a little. Logan and his sister were trying to catch crabs, and I just relaxed on the beach and work on my tan.

It was getting late in the afternoon, so we had to leave the island. We began to drive the boat back to our starting point which was approximately 45 minutes south of where we were. Everything was going smoothly, then silence. The engine had stopping running.

Originally I thought they were just playing around with us, but after 15 minutes of trying to fix it I knew the boat really was broken! We were drifting in teh Intercoastal and we were getting dangerously close to a sea wall. Of course no one was around to help, so we were left to fend for ourselves.

We radioed the rental company and they told us to stay put and they would be there to get us within the hour. So there were were just drifting.

It worked out wekk, because we all made light of the situation and actually had a great time, while waiting for help. The rental company did finally show up, and towed us back. We had perviously considered renting a boat for two days, but after this day, we decided we had had enough.

We Needed Some Theme Park Adventure

After spending several days at the beach we needed a change of pace. Logan, his sister and I decided to go to Busch Gardens for the day. WE had a great day, but the park was really crowded. We did the normal thing and went on all the roller coasters like a million times. WE also spent a considerable amount of time on the water rides because it was so insanely hot outside.

When we were done with the park, we went back to the condo and relaxed before going back to Madeira Beach and had some delicious seafood. Later that night we also did some shopping at the little tourist places and walked along the beach .

Haven't We Had Enough Of The Beach

My last day on the trip, I spent lounging at the beach and it the hot tub. After all the fun we had had, it was some much needed rest and relaxation. Furthermore, Fall semester was starting in only 4 days, so this was my last chance to do nothing for a while. It was quite nice.

All Good Things Must Come To An End

Unfortunatly, it was time for me to leave. I was going back to Gainesville before Logan because I was moving into a new apartment. I gathered my things and got on the highway where I met up with my parents and together we continued the drive back to Gainesviile. I had just experienced a wonderful vacation, and now I was ready to go back to school.
